Sky Arts
Sky is all about providing choice and making great arts accessible to everyone. Now, with four arts channels Sky Arts broadcasts more than 36 hours every day. Sky Arts 1 showcases the greats of contemporary culture, from rock and books to modern art. Sky Arts 2 features classical art forms including music, opera and ballet. You can also catch each channel in glorious high-definition on Sky Arts 1 HD and Sky Arts 2 HD.
Following the incredible success of Antony Gormley’s One & Other - which saw Sky Arts stage the world’s biggest high definition outside broadcast, streaming continuously live for 2,400 hours - Sky Arts are proud to be supporting Lumière, the second project in the 2009 Sky Arts Artichoke Season. The season is an ongoing partnership between Sky Arts and Artichoke, aiming to enable a new generation of public art.
Lumiere on screen
As part of Sky Arts’ on-screen collaboration with Artichoke, the company will create short films following ten of the artists; exploring the inspiration behind their installations, as well as the logistics of transforming the city’s landmarks to canvasses for their artworks. Additionally, Sky Arts will produce a thirty-minute documentary on the festival. They will be aired throughout December. For details please visit www.skyarts.co.uk/lumiere
SkyWalkers
Sky Arts have commissioned Philips to create shirts that will turn the Lumiere volunteer stewards into living artworks in their own rights. Using cutting-edge Lumalive technology, integrating multicolour LEDs into clothing, our SkyWalkers will literally glow in the dark. See if you can spot them on their travels around the city…
Sky Arts Torches
Sky Arts will be providing a free mini torch for every group - subject to availability of course. Collect yours along with your Festival guide – it’s perfect for reading in the dark!
Sky Arts Vans
Sky Arts will be hosting portable refreshment vans at the festival, providing sustainably sourced tea, coffee and hot chocolate to warm travellers on the trail. Sky Arts will match every donation, with all proceeds going to Sky’s Rainforest Recue campaign http://rainforestrescue.sky.com/
