Ron Haselden
Installation
For Lumiere 2009, artist Ron Haselden worked with offenders at
HM Prison Durham to create Nine Men Drawing, an installation that
was exhibited in the gardens behind Durham Cathedral. Now he
returns with a piece originally created in 2007, entitled Brothers
and Sisters.
Schoolchildren from the Isle of Dogs in London were each given a
pencil and a piece of paper, and asked to draw their friends and
siblings. The artist took these everyday sketches and
transformed them into sculptures, using LED embedded
light-rope. The finished portraits are here arranged in the
form of a giant school photo in the playful setting of Wharton
Park
About the artist
Ron Haselden was born in Gravesend, Kent, in 1944 and studied
sculpture at Edinburgh School of Art. He now lives and works
in London and in Plouër-sur-Rance, France. He was awarded the
Sargant Fellowship at the British School at Rome, Italy and has
received awards and grants from numerous funding bodies. He has
exhibited all over Europe and is currently joint curator for Aller
à Quessant.
