Claire Morgan (UK)
Installation
Claire Morgan's A New Moon is suspended above the River Wear,
creating a striking focal point in the night sky - a familiar
domestic sight on an industrial in scale.
The piece aims to make you pause and ponder, to deliberate over
their pre-conceived notions of inside and outside, the domestic and
the industrial and the familiar and the unknown. The position of
the 'bulb', hung from a crane and flickering gently, is all
intended to make you feel as if the work is 'in progress'.
About the artist
Claire Morgan is a Northern Irish artist living in London. Known
mainly for her suspended sculptures and drawings, she has exhibited
internationally, with solo shows in the UK and Europe, and museum
shows in US and Australia. After graduating Claire was shortlisted
for several awards, winning the RBS Bursary and Roy Noakes Awards
in 2004, and the Premio Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, International
Competition for Young Sculptors, Milan, in 2006.
Since then Claire has exhibited extensively. Shows in 2010
included Dead Or Alive, MAD, New York, and on&on, La Casa
Encendida, Madrid. 2011 began with Under The Sun, Galerie Karsten
Greve, Cologne, and Monanism, MONA, Tasmania. A large-scale
sculpture was commissioned for Bestes, Bestiaux, et Bestioles at
Château D'Oiron, and this will also be exhibited at La
Conciergerie, Paris, November 2011 until March 2012.
Works are in private collections in the UK, Europe and Australia,
including MONA, Altana, and Guerlain.
