French company AirVag’s Starry Nights (Nuits Etoilées) will be installed on rooftops across the city, adding to Durham’s familiar dramatic landscape. A huge series of illuminated stars and moons will appear amind the wintry darkness, drawing the eye upwards and creating iconic images central to the Lumiere event.

Air Vag creates stunning installations from PVC. By day they fill parks and streets with colourful sculptures, but as night falls, these beautiful objects begin to glow and sway, transforming spaces into something magical. Their previous works include Cheminement, Change de pot et Point jaune – an extraordinary interactive garden, Rêve de grenouilles for children, the 25m high La Pyramide, Envol, Roule boule et les ratatam and the mystical light installation Entre ciel et terre. Their work has been shown in London, Manchester, Rome, Paris and Sydney.
