Deep in the garden, as dusk falls, old gramophones spin glittering sounds while insects cast vast moving shadows… Ethereal dresses whisper and the Victorian glasshouses glow and crackle…Take a journey through a magical world as the Botanic Garden is transformed into a fascinating nocturnal trail of sound and light, a perfect blend of old and new technology.

The hit of this year’s Edinburgh Festival, Power Plant was created by some of the country’s most innovative visual and sonic artists including Mark Anderson, Anne Bean, Jony Easterby, Kirsten Reynolds and Ulf Pedersen.

Save money when you book in advance. Phone the Gala Theatre box office 0191 3324041 or book online. The box office is open 10am – 8.30pm (Monday – Saturday); 2.30pm – 8.30pm (Sunday).

“A huge success…Power Plant’s ingeniously playful array of electronic stunts, kinetic sculptures and musical sound effects sprung a series of delightful surprises.”

Very impressed with this event, so going to have to disagree with what Richard below says. I was simply able to follow the crowd and see everything on offer - a very varied display.

However, I have to admit that I don’t think this is going to appeal to everyone.
- People who enjoy more traditional art may find this display bewildering - though I have to say myself that I enjoyed this far more than wandering around the Louvre.
- Children may find the display scary as creepy sounds are played throughout in almost pitch black. (although those I saw seemed fine)

VERY disappointed with this event. Started badly with poor signage (ended up wandering around a univesity canvas for 30 mins). Wandered around the garden for 20 mins in pitch darkness not really knowing what was going on or where to go. The staff just said “go whichever way you like” and we ended up back at the entrance .... so we left! Then had a 45 minutes wait/bus journey back into town. Only consolation - it only cost a fiver! AVOID!

lol - I’m a regular theatre goer and have never paid £2 as a transaction fee! (Just bought two £97.50 tickets in the West End and they only had a 75p fee!) Also seems strange that the transaction fee is being levied on the automated purchasing option! Never mind - I’ll take my chances on the door!

Andrew and Simon -
There’s no transaction fee if you pay by phone or in person. While the transaction fee is something levied by most theatres etc, we agree it seems excessive on a £4.50 ticket! We tried to find a way out but unfortunately it’s something levied on the Gala by the online booking company they use.
