Speirs and Major Associates
6pm – 11pm | Market Place
New Commission
Britain’s leading lighting architects Speirs and Major Associates are creating a living portrait of the city in its very centre.Durham-based photographer Steven Landles has photographed more than 100 people of every age and from every walk of life. These will be projected onto the buildings of the Market Place, accompanied by an audio soundtrack of the city’s life. Specially commissioned to mark Durham’s City of Culture bid, this piece will explore the characters that give the city its unique identity, and create a portrait of a vibrant, living place.
Speirs and Major work with some of the world’s leading architects to create lighting designs which complement each building perfectly. They’ve designed lighting for buildings as diverse as St Paul’s Cathedral to Heathrow Terminal 5, but they also love to create art projects in the cities that inspire them.
Created by Mark Major, Clementine Rodgers, Christopher Beasley and Lee Sweetman. Soundtrack by John Howes.
