Nine Men Drawing
Ron Haselden
6pm – 10.30pm (last admission 10.15pm) | The College, Durham Cathedral
Nine Men Drawing is a work by Ron Haselden, an artist of international reputation, who is already known in the North East for his permanent work in Sunderland, Middlesborough and Newcastle.
For this temporary installation, he has collaborated with a group of people who are usually invisible to the wider community,– offenders incarcerated in HM Prison, Durham. Members of the prison art class were invited to draw a self-portrait which Haselden has faithfully recreated in low-voltage LED light. The finished pieces, ten feet tall, will be installed in the College behind Durham Cathedral, highlighting the links between both institutions and providing an opportunity for us all to reflect on the nature of community and the nature of art.
