Tim Etchells

6pm – 11pm | Railway Station (TBC)

Photos

Tim Etchells is one of Britain’s most celebrated writer/directors. Based in Sheffield he has written, directed, and occasionally performed in dozens of widely acclaimed performance pieces for theatre company Forced Entertainment which he founded in 1984. He has also published several books, and created several temporary text-based art installations. For Lumiere we have chosen three of his neon signs, which use seemingly inconsequential phrases, but somehow catch the viewer off-guard with their immediate intimacy.

Tim’s work ranges from performance to visual art and fiction. His pieces often explore rules and systems within language and culture as well as concealment, construction and deconstruction. In addition to his work with Forced Entertainment, Tim has worked with artists Asta Groting and Franko B, and choreographers Meg Stuart and Wendy Houstoun. Tim’s work includes Art Flavours, Empty Stages (which was first shown at the Tate Modern), Price Lists (shown at The Palais De Tokyo, Paris) and Surrender Control, which sent instructions via text message to subscribers. His performance work includes Drama Queens (Old Vic) and Money for Nice (V&A Museum).
