This was brilliant. So glad I've found the website.
Myself and my girlfriend attended on the last night and we found it to be amazing. Although we were unable to get inside the cathedral and grounds, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Please let the festival return in 2012. I think it even beat Christmas :)

I would appreciate your feedback taking into account comments on page 10 of In & Around Stockton and Darlington magazine, link below. I attended the event and have NEVER been to such a shambolic, disorganised, unsafe event in my life. Surely Durham CANNOT bring these people back to deliver this event in the future. I'm all for Art but certainly not when it is at the expense of safety!
The information about the artists who collaborated on Crown of Light can be found on this page, above.
If you're after information on the musicians who played as part of Carabosse's Spirit, you can find that information on the individual page here: http://www.lumieredurham.co.uk/programme/installations/spirit/.
Fantastic - myself, husband & 2 children (7 &11) attended on Friday 18th Nov and although we didn't see everything we thoroughly enjoyed the spectacular sights. My favourites were the displays at the cathedral - on the building itself, the hanging vests inside, the fire displays at the rear and the illuminated figures on the way down South Bailey. It was very busy but I can't wait to come back when you return. As previously suggested the event should be over more nights, every weekend in November would be fantastic in the run up to Christmas.
Thanks again - we loved it

As I live in the centre of Durham it was easy for me to choose the best time to go to avoid the crowds.
To impove crowd safety in future I suggest it is held over more nights and some nights solely for pushchairs /wheelchairs users.
It was sectacular !!
Role on 2013 please come again.

I've been a student in Durham for over 2 and a half years and this was the first time I could appreciate the beauty of this small mining town. Lumiere was ethereal, engaging and simply stunning in the visionary installations. My favourite was the installation on South Bailey with the figures suspended mid air, it evoked a Peter Pan sort of nostalgia. I really hope to see Lumiere back in Durham next year, it would be an utter shame if not.

I went with my husband and some friends and we were simply awestruck with the enchantment - particularly by the cathedral pictures like embroidery all over the building. My mouth just dropped open! I thought the waterfall effect seen from Elvet Bridge was also extraordinary. How was it done, I wonder? It seemed on such a large scale. A magical night, bringing that gem of a city to life and to Light. Thank you.

it would be a shame to loose lumiere as the sights were spectacular and i hope you come back but please read on. the first nigth thursday i walked from framwellgate bridge to prebends bridge - looked at the tunnel on prebends bridge and then entered palace green via the bailey and the side street closest to the cathedral. the time being about 1915 hrs i watched the conclusion of the cathedral demonstration and then tried to exit palace green and on to sadler street via owengate. i was prevented from doing so by marshals and the crowd in font of me who were being driven back by more crowds entering palace green via owengate. this left only one exit from palace green which was by the side street to the bailey. the problem being more people were entering palace green this way. it it not a lie when i tell you that myself and my wife had to almost fight our way out. palace green was jam packed and people were climbing on anything they could to ger away from the crowds. i eventually made it out of palace green and the only escape was kingsgate bridge. this was dangerously full of people, knowind durham well i took the steps to the side of kingsgate bridge to the river footpath and out of the way of the crowds. you very very nearly had a major incident on your hands, and how it didnt happen i dont know.
i hope you come back to durham as the show was wonderfull but you need to have crowd control measures in place which will work as sadly your marshals on that night were incapable of ensuring crowd safety. i'm not flowering this up at all , it realy was that bad so please sort it out and come back.

Just sublime! and so original! Can't rate it highly enough. I feel sorry for those who couldn't look past the crowds-I thought the people bought it alive.
