WOW!!
Well done Artichoke what a fantastic event well organised and well thought of, puts Durham City on the map and should be a first place winner for the city of culture bid 2013 please come back next year this time for longer.

we visited lumire on saturday nite with our grandsons but due to the lack of crowd control our grandson was frightened and we had to leave as he was paniking in case he got lost..what we did see was very good.if they ever do it again i hope they organise it better

Stunning!
Puts Durham in a brilliant new light - a huge credit to Artichoke and all those who made it happen.

Firstly well done by all who obviously worked hard to make this event happen, well done.
3 of us came across and stayed over night to enjoy this event.
Power Plant!! like quite a few others the signage was err! none existent. Judging by Google earth we were so close but meeting people coming towards us saying they had been told wheelchair access only and to go around via the road!!
So we went into town.
Were we too early 6.30pm for the one on the River? FLUX. The Plastic bottle lanterns fantastic. We walked back up the River which as a one way system worked for those going the right way. We were the fortunate ones who got it right. Simply having a sign saying FOOTPATH CLOSED
annoyed a few people and gave the Stewards in Hi VIZ Jackets a hard job.
The Cathedral events were all excellent, I should have stayed for a second helping.

A magical weekend for us - the catherdral and its events were the higllights for us, but also enjoyed the Botanic Gardens. Fantastic to see so many people connecting with their inner child, and the pendulums in the Cathedral were particularly mesmerising, disturbing, spooky and reassuring - all at the same time. Oh, and we loved the cute and naughty traffic cone that chased people around…
Thanks to Artichoke and Sky Arts.

Standing in the lashing rain on Friday night watching the Crown of Light I looked at the faces of the captivated audience.  This beautiful show had the power to hold our attention despite the weather and to transform the space and perceptions.
Couldn’t find the Bottle Festoon.
Three different taxi drivers and our hotel receptionist knew nothing about the Lumiere events.
Overall well done Durham and good luck for your Capital of Culture bid.

dont know which was more spectacular, the lumiere or the trail of scantily clad 18 year olds out for a sat night extravaganza walking up from the car park!  couldnt find the bottle tree or the dune in the cloisters and tended to come across things by accident - bit of on street signing would have been very useful.to be told we could only walk, on way, by the river for health and safety reasons was quite illogical.it seems to be a great reason to stop anyone doing anything. overall a great night out but needs more publicity. as to previous remarks about the southern students - where is south? south of sunderland, york or the midlands or the south coast! get a grip you windgers and keep working so that your tax can pay for these great events - or just sit at home in front of the telly and gripe becoming bitter and boring. welll done all.

Fantastic show, particularly at the cathedral, many thanks.
A consideration for the future. There were no times or details of the shows or displays on the website- only, so far as I found, within the programme which we received once we arrived. I turned up with two small children at 5.00, presuming that it would commence once it was dark, only to have over an hour to wait for the event at the cathedral. Durham was packed- good atmosphere but we couldn’t get into some of the cafes due to the crowds.

We couldn’t get into the cathedral at all and the crowd control was poor, especially alarming when you’ve got small children.

Why couldn’t it start earlier, and surely times could have been on the website?
Thanks

We attended this event on Saturday night. The Cathedral light show was fantastic! We liked the street lights, the light installations & performances, too.
It was rather difficult going in & out of the Cathedral, though, due to overcrowding. Perhaps there could have been more frequent Park & Ride buses, too. The queues and the wait were far too long.
However, we had an excellent night, and thank you to all who organised it. Well done!
Perhaps this event could be extended to 1 or 2 weeks in the future?  Some of the practical problems may be alleviated.

FANTASTIC!! We loved the Cathedral. It was good to see such a large crowd, despite the weather. Well done to all the Staff, Organisers and Artists. I, personally, would have paid (extra) money to see this event - appreciating I have paid by my Council Tax, it is great to get something back. Thank you !

Some very good stuff to see (and I haven’t finished yet!)  My only criticism is that the very best of it was the least easy to stumble upon by accident and vice versa: my favourite part so far was “Chorus” inside the Cathedral, whereas some of the things on the main thoroughfares (mentioning no names) didn’t really inspire me quite as much.  But it was all certainly well worth doing, so congratulations to all involved.

Two words… Very Impresive !

Visted with family Saturday night. Started at the Botanical Gardens. The atmosphere was fantastic, the exhibits wonderful. Young and old were wrapped up in the moment. I love winter festvals like this, bringing light to this time of year.
We walked around most of the city exhibits, although we enjoyed the life the festival had brought to the city it was a bit too busy with small children in tow. Many of the people around us had been the previous night and were checking more of it out - good sign.

VERY disappointed with Lumiere. Travelled four hours to visit Durham for the weekend (Durham, by the way, is a lovely place so not an entirely wasted weekend!) Lumiere seemed mostly to be a collection of projectors hooked up to Macs pointing at various buildings. That’s it. The Botanic Garden ‘Power Plant’ was just a walk in the dark with a few lights and noises. The French ‘Passage’ was enjoyable but was massively over-hyped. Waited around the bridge for 35 mins and then half-a-dozen people walked by with fire and that was it!! Would liked to have seen much more from them. This was no Liverpool Spider or London Elephant BY A LONG WAY. And the Internet wasn’t working in my hotel room (ok, I won’t blame Artichoke for that!)
