The SkyWalkers

Posted on 14th November 2009 by Holly Race

Thank you to our amazing audience who last night braved the elements armed with umbrellas and soggy smiles.

Also to our team of bright and brilliant volunteers who were once again out in force, flying the flag for voluntary organisations throughout the North East. If you've been anywhere near the installations, you will have seen them around the city centre in the evenings of the next few days, distributing maps and handy torches. They are also poised to tell you about their favourite installations, and if you want to learn more about an installation often our friendly stewards and volunteers will be able to give you more information.

Particularly, look out for our SkyWalkers, who thanks to Lumalive technology have been transformed into living artworks. Their shirts, specially developed by Phillips, have integrated multicolour LEDs that project various images and literally make their tummies glow in the dark. Sky Arts have commissioned a special slideshow, and if you're very lucky you might see the SkyWalkers standing next to each other, with the images scrolling across their tummies. It's a sight to behold!

Stop them and chat, take a photo or marvel at them from afar, but parents be warned you may see a lot of Lumalives on Christmas lists!
