Power Plant at the Botanic Garden

Power Plant at the Botanic Garden

This evening I was lucky enough to get a special preview of Power Plant and Crown of Light. First of all was Power Plant at the Botanic Garden. It's our only ticketed event - partly because the Garden always charges for entry and partly because we're staggering entry times to ensure maximum enjoyment. As the photographers and journalists were taken round a few installations, I managed to get lost in the darkness (it won't be quite so dark tomorrow - they're installing low level solar lights along the pathways as I type). The whole garden buzzes and vibrates with sound. In one little garden the trees are strangely patterned; in another there's a tree with little glass bells that ring - you can walk through them and hear the vibrations change. One of the highlights was a series of flames that leapt up into the air with a different musical note. Do book your tickets now at the Gala Theatre - there's a £2 transaction fee if you book online but if you book over the phone or in person you'll get a discount on the normal ticket price.

Then on to Crown of Light, at the Cathedral - a spectacular son et lumiere that lifts your heart. The Palace Green is turned into an amphitheatre as choirs and orchestras soar in time to beautiful images from the Lindisfarne Gospels being projected onto the Cathedral. We can talk in the guides and the press about '100m wide' and 'taking your breath away', but nothing can prepare you for how enormous and how stunning the actual show is. If you're anywhere near the Cathedral over the next few evenings, take 12 minutes out of your night and go enjoy the spectacle.

So, less than a day to go now - have you picked up your guide and your torch? Have you decided which installations you're going to see, or are you going to have a shot at finding all of them? Let us know by commenting on the right!

Solar powered lighting is low-cost, and their advantage is that you don’t have to run any wiring for them.  By placing the solar lights so the solar panel gets direct sunlight, you can install most solar lights in just a few seconds. outdoor solar lighting
